Post-surgical strength Joint-friendly Lighter loads, real gains Schedule My Appointment

What It Is

A cuff. A lighter load. A real strength response.

After surgery, or when a joint won’t tolerate heavy load yet, your muscles still need a reason to get stronger. Blood flow restriction training gives them one, without the weight your joint isn’t ready for.

We place a pressurized cuff high on your arm or leg. It partially restricts the blood flowing back out of the muscle while you exercise with a light load. That mild restriction changes the environment inside the muscle enough to trigger a strength and growth response similar to heavy lifting.

It’s a well-studied technique, not a shortcut or a gimmick. You get a real training stimulus at a fraction of the load, which matters most in the window when your joint can’t handle a fraction more.

Questions, Answered

Blood flow restriction, no mystery.

Most people feel pressure and a fullness in the muscle, not pain. Some sessions feel more intense than others, especially as the load builds. We check that you’re cleared for BFR before we ever put the cuff on, and we explain exactly what to expect first. It’s never sprung on you.

It’s built for people who can’t lift heavy yet, not people looking for a shortcut. Think post-surgical patients, patients with joint limitations, or older patients easing back into strength work. If heavy loading is off the table right now, BFR gives your muscles a reason to get stronger anyway.

It depends on your plan. On The Run Physical Therapy is a hybrid clinic: we accept select insurance plans, and we also offer cash-pay with upfront pricing. To verify your coverage for BFR, call us at (737) 777-8343.
